Hi my lovely birds! How are you pretties today [or I guess handsome, if there are any men reading this!]? I want to start by saying last week I only posted once, instead of my usual twice because there are some REALLY fun + amazing changes coming to Madly Mignon. I am re-doing some of the site + also in the process of setting up new strategies + collabs to bring you even more amazing content. While doing all of that, my time is somewhat limited + therefore I had to sacrifice the second blog post last week! In case you are confused about WHEN I post, my normal schedule is posting twice a week on the blog, on Tuesdays + on Fridays. This may change, but I will update you lovelies as we go along! Also, please stay up-to-date with my daily happenings on instagram here.
All that being said, today I want to continue onto part two of Living Loved, a journey I have been taking through working on knowing Christ’s love for me in FULL + how to live that out daily. As you may already know, I have been extremely inspired by the book, Uninvited, by Lysa Terkeurst. Last time we talked about a few ways to re-direct our heart towards Heaven daily. Something I want to talk about today is how we can ABIDE, DWELL, + DELIGHT in Christ daily.
Let’s start with Abiding. What does it TRULY mean to abide in Christ? Well, bear with me here as we take it to the bible! In John 15 Jesus states that the branches that bear fruit are then pruned to bear more fruit. In essence, when we bear fruit for His Kingdom, he is pruning us to bear even MORE fruit.
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me” [John 15: 4]
The dictionary defines abiding as acting in accordance with a rule or recommendation. Jesus later goes on to say in John 15, that if we keep His commandments we will abide in His love. Abiding in God means that we love him with all of our hearts + souls + our minds while simultaneously loving our neighbor as ourselves [SeeMatthew 22:37-39]. We can show this love for God through devout prayer + continual trust. We abide in having a relationship with Him + obeying Him through love for Him + for others.
“If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.” [John 15: 10]
Next, let’s talk about delighting! Oh la la, I just love to delight, don’t you lovelies? Delighting is a reminder of how I feel when I see the most gorgeous of sunsets... I take it in + enjoy every second of it, making sure I am absorbing all of the goodness + cherishing every moment. Well, in ways delighting in the Lord can look similar. It means to see Him as the most admirable person in the universe. Admiration is one of our greatest pleasures as humans. I love John Piper who says “Admiration is one of our greatest pleasures We admire musical figures, acting figures, beauty, sunset and sunrises, and mountains and rivers. We are admiring creatures to the core. We are wired to admire the most admirable and the most admirable is God”. How do we do this practically? We have to see + take in all of the glories + beauties that Christ has given us! And honestly, a lot of this has to do with knowing him as your friend... like I said in my previous post, go on dates with him. I promise, he never stands you up ;) DELIGHT in HIM + enjoy every moment.
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” [Psalm 37:4]
Lastly, how do we fully dwell in God? To dwell essentially means to LIVE. To live with Him means to remain in His presence always where he is constantly protecting us+ watching over us through our every move.
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty” [Psalm 91:1]
All this being said, when we abide, delight, + dwell in Him, Lysa states that “He places within us desires that line up with His best desire for us. Therefore, He can give us whatever we ask, because we will only what what’s consistent with His best. He can fully satisfy our hearts, because they are consistent with His heart. He can promise us stability, because we’re tapped into His consistent power”. Well my loves, if this isn’t reason to fully LIVE LOVED, then I don’t even know what is. A life with a heart FILLED with what is BEST for us, instead of the grit that often clogs it- I’ll take that! A life of stability because we don’t have to be phased by the inconsistencies of this world- Yup, I’ll take that too!
How about we all make more of an effort to fully abide, delight, and dwell in God daily? How about we give him our first fruits to fill us before we even start our days? What would THAT look like?
Just something to think about ;)
