LET’S TALK ABOUT IT

Ladies [+ gents if you are out there!], today I want to talk about something that resonates deep in my soul. It is not a topic that is fun to talk about, but one that is SO important to face. Not exactly my favorite topic, but one that we ALL need to confront. The topic of [drumroll please...] REJECTION! I recently started reading a book called Uninvited by Lisa TerKeurst. Man oh man does she ever just lay it out there! Confession: I am only 2 chapters deep, but alas endless pages of notes have already been taken!

One harsh reality I had to face today while reading this book was that for years in the past, I was expecting to have stability in my life although my identity was broken to pieces due to rejection. It is a fact of life that we experience rejection every single day of our lives. Sometimes [if we are not careful], this rejection can build up + up so much so that when some sort of new rejection comes through, it touches on vulnerability we have already experienced + hence it hurts that much more.

For example...LADIES, do you ever find yourself getting overly sensitive about something a loved one says in such a way that you blow your response out of proportion? Unless you have never experienced the side-effects of PMS, likely you have experienced this multiple times, ha. We end up interpreting what the other person said way more emotionally than was ever intended, simply because it was a trigger from a a past rejection that we never dealt with.

OR [+ this happens to me far too often], Do you ever have your heart set on something to do, + when those plans unexpectedly fall through you feel rejected I some way. In those moments, somehow I sometimes find myself feeling just off the rest of the day. I can’t seem to shake the fact that all I wanted to do was that one thing I was so excited about.

As the lovely Lisa would say:

“Rejection isn’t just an emotion. It’s a message that’s sent to the core of who we are, causing us to believe lives about ourselves, others, and GOD.”

Say whaaaaaaa??? Come again?!?! That’s right. She goes on to say:

“Rejection steals the best of who I am by reinforcing the WORST of what’s been said to me"

PHEWIE! I am already sweating just thinking about these truths about how rejection has crippled my present emotions, reactions, + thoughts. The beautiful part though about it all, is there IS a way to overcome current + past, deep rooted rejection. It is time for us to recognize that our core beliefs are what should be holding us up even when life around us is crumbling. God’s goodness cannot be assessed by how we feel in just one particular time. Feelings are fleeting + deceiving, + the more we cling onto these feelings, the more rejection sinks into affecting the CORE message of who we are. What is not fleeting, is the truths we find in looking at the core of who we are through what God has to say about us.

Last quote + then we move on for today:

“I’m going to stop flirting with the unstable things of this world so I can fall completely in love with You. I am loved. I am held. I am Yours. I am forever Yours."

I will end it on that note, can’t wait to talk with you lovelies further!
